Welcome to ArtPRIDE's MAP (Measuring Arts Participation) Project!
MAP's mission is to help non-profit arts groups better understand arts
participation so they may develop informed marketing and development
strategies that broaden, deepen and diversify audiences.
MAP participants are invited to build your own audience survey.
All arts organizations in New Jersey are invited to administer this
flexible survey at your own facilities. You may select the survey
components that are most appropriate for your needs. Guidelines on how
to administer the survey and how to enter the resulting information into
the MAP database are available online. Training for staff is also
available and data entry services may be contracted for a nominal fee.
Two survey components are mandatory: Demographics and
Travel-related Spending. Data collected in these areas will
supplement statewide arts participation data and help ArtPRIDE conduct
ongoing research on economic activity related to the arts.
Two other survey components are optional: Marketing/PR and
Quality of Experience to learn how audiences find out about
cultural activities and how much they enjoy them and are likely to return.
You may use either or both of the optional tools in tandem with the
mandatory components for a comprehensive look at your audience. The
last survey component: Arts Education captures data related
to participation in hands-on workshops and classes, and is offered to
help groups that have educational programs.
Even if you utilize all of the survey building blocks a
complete survey will print out on both sides of a standard business
sized sheet of paper (either 8 1/2 x 11 or 8 1/2 by 14).
Many of the questions are similar to those featured in surveys conducted
by arts groups around the state in 1996 and 2000 by the ArtPRIDE NJ
Foundation and the NJ State Council on the Arts for the purpose of
comparison.
ArtPRIDE's MAP Project is funded through a START Program grant of
the NJ State Council on the Arts and the Wallace Foundation, and with
assistance from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the Prudential
Foundation.
