2014 is filled with landmark NJ events that you should know about! Not only is 2014 the 350th birthday of New Jersey, but it is the year that the Garden State will host the Super Bowl and the Special Olympics. So what do the arts have to do with ANY of these events? Plenty!
Since it’s such a big year, we’ll take it in three parts and focus this blog entry on NJ350. Sara Cureton, of the NJ Historical Commission and the NJ Cultural Trust, and Carol Cronheim, Assistant Secretary of State, have been speaking with cultural groups around the state to discover already scheduled events that may be part of the NJ350 celebration and embrace its themes of Innovation, Diversity and Liberty.
The official logo of the celebration is also easily adopted as a signature for cultural activities planned throughout 2014. A variety of scholarly works and lists of all sorts (i.e., books, films) are being compiled as well as cataloguing unique cultural and historical artifacts and items that reveal New Jersey’s incredibly rich heritage.
If you are interested in creating or dedicating an original work of art—visual or performance art, you are encouraged to reach out to Allison Kobus (Allison.firstname.lastname@example.org) at the NJ Historical Commission. An official website will launch at the end of June. If you’d like to submit events for inclusion on the website, please provide the following information:
